I take time each day to meditate and read from the Bible. Today I was pondering Psalm 91: 1 – 2, 4 (NIV):
He who dwells in the shelter of the most high will rest in the shadow of the almighty
I will say of the Lord “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust”
He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge.
In most parts of North America, this winter was especially harsh. It is wonderful to see our spring quickly approaching. Now is this time of year that signifies birth and beginnings, including the birth of little ones of all types of species. Spring focuses our attention on creation and the renewal and beginning of life. One way to see this happen is to marvel at the process of the nesting, brooding and hatching of chicks. Through the proper protection of hens in their coops and nests, you’ll see the natural process of life exhibited by the hen each and every day. Your efforts provide protection, warmth, and solitude–a fortress for the vulnerable, growing chick.
As the Psalm says, he who dwells in the house of the Lord will rest and have comfort under His protection. However, we must make the Most High our dwelling, follow the principles and values He created for us. Applied to our coops, we see that the hen is the protector. The chick has complete trust and faith that its mom will offer what the chick needs for the basics of life and growth. Without the hen, in our artificial environments, we become the protector. Make sure when your young chicks arrive, you pay attention to detail in the brooding and management of these young chicks.
Examples of the relationship between the protector and those he protects are all around us. The Bible reminds me of my relationship to my Creator, but there are plenty of other references one can look to as well. What have you read today that inspires you?
Have a powerful day.
